Four Harvard students created Facebook back in 2004. The main purpose for creating this social networking site is to let students from anywhere to be connected.
2,200 colleges and 22,000 high schools in the US are using Facebook; and the site has more than 6 million members. Daily, the site receives between 10,000 to 20,000 membership sign-ups.
A member, such as Ashley, creates her profile in Facebook. She can then fill the site with myriads of information regarding, gender, sexual orientation, etc. Through its profile, a member can send messages to any member of the site. They can also advertise, post photos of any kind. Because of these services, students are attracted to Facebook. They find the site useful, where they can expand their network, discuss any issues, know campus happenings, join other social groups, etc.
