In 2005, there were changes in the lay-out of Migente.com. The changes brought heavy criticisms from loyal Migente.com users. They complained that the new Migente layout, specifically the problems in the personal pages some users experienced. One user said she lost all the list of friends when upgrading to the new layout. "Prehistoric" or "backwards" was how others termed when they couldn't find inks that were easy to find in the older version. There were also complains about graphics and music boxes. Because of difficulties users experienced with the upgrade, some of them resorted to designing their own Migente personal pages, a move discouraged by people maintaining the site.
The issue about Migente layout has not affected the popularity of the site. Hispanics are finding the site a place for them to gather and meet their kind. Some other nationalities¡ªblack or white¡ªhave become members of the site. More than 4,000 users are logged on the site at any given time.
